AMHERST, Mass. -- Amherst College senior
Natalie Stott needed to make only 10 saves Saturday night in a 6-0 win over UMass Boston, but that was more than enough to secure her 36th career shutout and set a new NCAA Div. III record in the process.
Stott surpassed Gustavus Adolphus University graduate Katie McCoy, whose stellar career ended with 35 shutouts.
"Natalie is obviously super talented when it comes to stopping pucks," Amherst head coach
Jeff Matthews said. "I could not be prouder -- or happier -- for her in setting this NCAA record, but the reason why I was almost in tears walking off the ice is because of the person she is. It may sound like hyperbole but she is a better person than she is a goalie. The team loves her and we all could not be happier for Natalie."
Stott's 3rd shutout of the season came on a night her teammates scored a season-high six goals. The Mammoths improved to 5-0-2 with the victory, wrapping up play for this semester. They are back in action January 2nd at SUNY-Morrisville's Mustang Cup Tournament. They play the hosts at 6 p.m.
