Mammoths shine at Babson to open 2026

BABSON PARK, Mass. — The Amherst College men's swimming and diving team turned in a strong, well-rounded performance but ultimately came up short against Babson College in a dual meet on Friday evening.

HIGHLIGHTS:

* The meet featured several tightly contested relay races and standout individual efforts on both sides. Amherst opened the night on a high note, winning the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of Usim Odim, Fyn Nadel, Cameron Aryanpour, and Ethan Van De Water touched first in a time of 1:35.29. The Mammoths continued to showcase their depth in the relay events, claiming victories in the 3×100 butterfly relay, 3×100 backstroke relay, and 3×100 breaststroke relay.

* First-year Owen Vale delivered an impressive performance throughout the meet, swimming on multiple winning relays and anchoring Amherst's top team in the 3×100 medley relay, which posted a time of 2:42.22. Vale also helped power the Mammoths to victory in the 3×100 breaststroke relay alongside Eric Albers and Fyn Nadel.

* In diving, sophomore Tyler Palm led the way for Amherst, finishing second on the 1-meter board before capturing first place on the 3-meter board with a score of 223.85.

* Amherst closed the meet with a strong showing in the freestyle relays. The Mammoths won both the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay, with the latter capped by a standout anchor leg from Van De Water to secure a winning time of 3:11.76.

* The Mammoths are home Saturday vs. Union at 12 p.m.
