AMHERST, Mass. — The Amherst College men's swimming and diving team turned in a dominant performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating Springfield College, 166–75, at Pratt Pool.
The Mammoths set the tone early by sweeping the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. Amherst's A team of senior
Jonah Luetke, senior Fyn Nadel, sophomore
Cameron Aryanpour, and first-year
Roan Haney captured first place in 1:31.93, while the B team followed closely behind in 1:33.83.
Amherst controlled the meet throughout with wins across all disciplines. Senior
Michael Jang opened the individual events with a victory in the 500-yard freestyle, touching first in 4:42.47. First-year
JP Giglio and sophomore
Jack Goepfrich followed with a one-two finish in the 200-yard freestyle, posting times of 1:41.45 and 1:41.58, respectively.
First-year
Owen Vale delivered another standout performance, winning both the 100-yard individual medley (50.61) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:50.18). Amherst also swept the podium in the 100 IM, with junior
Henry Liu finishing second and sophomore
Joel Chen taking third.
The Mammoths were especially strong in the sprint events. Junior
Tom Conaty won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.73, while Goepfrich captured first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.81. Senior
Ethan Van De Water added a second-place finish in the event.
In the stroke races, senior
Henry LeCates claimed the 100-yard butterfly in 50.33, with Aryanpour close behind in second. Luetke led the backstroke group, winning the 100-yard backstroke in 51.68, followed by senior Usim Odim in second.
Amherst swept the top three spots in the 100-yard breaststroke, led by Nadel's winning time of 55.14. Junior
Eric Albers and Liu followed in second and third, respectively.
On the boards, sophomore
Tyler Palm placed second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 244.12 and added a fourth-place finish on the 1-meter board.
The meet concluded with another relay victory for Amherst, as the Mammoths' A team of Goepfrich, Aryanpour, Haney, and Van De Water won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:24.17.
Amherst will look to carry this momentum forward as the Mammoths continue their season.
