AMHERST, Mass. -- Five Mammoths earned United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America honors when the selections were announced last week. Senior defenseman
Lawson Laverty (Round Hill, Va.) was selected to the All-America Third Team while senior midfielder
Alex Giacobbe (Manhasset, N.Y.), junior short-stick midfielder
Matthew Sheinberg (New Canaan, Conn.), junior long-stick midfielder
Thompson Lau (Pittsburgh, Pa.), and senior face off
Nicholas Kopp (Damascus, Md.) earned a USILA All-America Honorable Mention.
Laverty earned his third career USILA All-America honor while also earning USA Lacrosse Magazine Second Team, NEILA All-Region Second Team, and All-NESCAC First Team accolades for his stellar play this season. The defenseman tallied 48 ground balls and a team-leading 26 caused turnovers while helping the Mammoths allow the second-fewest goals against (134) in the NESCAC during the regular season. This is the latest award for the Mammoths' decorated captain following his third career All-NESCAC honor and a USA Lacrosse All-America selection this year.
Sheinberg earned his second career USILA All-America accolade while also earning selections to the USA Lacrosse Magazine Second Team, NEILA All-Region Second Team, and the All-NESCAC First Team after another season of high-level defensive play. The junior picked up 44 ground balls and caused five turnovers in 17 games this season. A complete player, the short-stick midfielder also contributed on the attacking side of the ball, netting seven goals and delivering one assist this season. He has also earned All-NESCAC and various All-America honors the last two seasons.
After being named the 2024 USILA National Long Stick Midfielder of the Year, Lau continued his dominating campaign as a long-stick midfielder this season. He ranked second on the team with 19 caused turnovers, and continued to be a threat in transition, scoring two goals and one assist while picking up 52 ground balls. His ground ball numbers also place second on the team and lead the Mammoths' long sticks in that category. This is just another trophy in Lau's growing cabinet, which includes multiple All-America honors from USA Lacrosse and the USILA, two All-Region nods, and two All-NESCAC selections to date.
This season, Kopp continued to excel as one of the best face-off specialists in the NESCAC. He won 63.3 percent of face-offs and finished second in the conference with 216 face-off wins in 17 games and won his 1000th career faceoff during the NESCAC Quarterfinal. Kopp also led the Mammoths with 77 ground balls and scored three goals on the way to earning his first All-Region recognition this season. He has also been a three-time All-NESCAC selection.
Giacobbe earns his second straight USILA All-America honor with another strong season this year. The senior followed up his honorable mention performance last year with a team-leading 31 goals while adding seven assists, including the game-winning goal in a 13-9 win over Connecticut College and a four-goal performance in a victory over Denison. He has also earned NEILA All-Region honors and All-NESCAC selections the last two years.
Amherst concluded their 2025 season with an 11-5 record making NESCAC Quarterfinal and NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances.
