4 Mammoths Earn CSC Academic All-District 1 Honors

AMHERST, MA. – Four members of the Amherst College women's basketball team were accorded College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors when they were announced earlier today: senior captains Kori Barach and Maya Cwalina, and juniors Sylvia Liddle and Annie McCarthy.

The Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 and have played in 90 percent or started 66 percent of their team's games to be eligible.

Barach is an economics major from Carlisle, Massachusetts. She appeared in 26 games for Amherst, starting 22 of them, and averaging 11.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. While this is her first Academic All-District selection, Barach was named Second Team All-NESCAC in 2023-24.

Cwalina is a double major in art & the history of art and psychology from Middle Village, New York. She appeared in every game for the Mammoths this season and averaged 8.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game while leading the country, the team and the NESACAC with 94 blocks. Cwalina's breakout senior season saw her earn NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-NESCAC honors in addition to this, her third CSC Academic All-District Team selection.

Liddle is a chemistry major from Bovina, New York. The junior played in 27 games, starting 21, for Amherst this season, averaging 3.9 points and 5.5 rebounds. One of the Mammoths most consistent and balanced players, she recorded 20 blocks and 25 steals this season, in addition notching 1.9 assists per game this year.\

McCarthy is a psychology major from Medfield, Massachusetts. She played in all 28 games for the Mammoths this season, starting 20, and averaging 6.8 points 4.9 rebounds per game. Known as the Mammoths premier shooter, McCarthy lead the Mammoths in made three-pointers with 36 and in free-throw percentage at a .884 clip, 7 percent better than the next closest player.

The Mammoths finished 20-8 this season – the team's 17th straight season with a winning record – and booked trips to the NESCAC semifinals for the first time since 2022-23 and NCAA Round of 32 for the first time since 2021-22.
