NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Down 13 in the third quarter, in a hostile gym on the road, with a NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance on the line, the pressure could have taken the Amherst College women's basketball down.
Instead the Mammoths fought back with all that they had in them, and when sophomore
Reagan Pahl coolly drained a three-pointer with 10 seconds remaining in the NCAA Tournament 2nd Round Contest at Smith College's Ainsworth Gymnasium, the scoreboard read 50-50.
Life is not a movie however, and so the final dramatic ending the Mammoths were hoping for never materialized, as Smith guard Ally Landau drove to the basket and laid in a shot off the glass to beat the final buzzer and give the Pioneers a 52-50 victory.
Amherst saw its season end at 20-8.
