#17 Amherst edge past #24 Bowdoin at home, 5-4

AMHERST, MA — On Wednesday morning, the #17 Amherst College men's squash team returned to competition in their 2024-25 season to play their first contest of the new calendar year. The Mammoths faced NESCAC opponents, the #24 Bowdoin College Polar Bears, in an away match on the Davenport Squash Courts. Amherst prevailed over the Polar Bears with a hard-fought 5-4 win.

Amherst's win improves their season record to 5-2 (3-0 in NESCAC play). Amherst will next play three consecutive away matches in the Mid-Atlantic Round Robin, with the first match in just two days. At 5:30pm ET on Friday, Amherst will face the #16 Naval Academy Midshipmen at the Prager Family Squash Facility in Annapolis, MD. The Midshipmen's season record currently stands at 11-3.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

Amherst's impressive stamina was evident as they won two of the five-set matches
Sophomore Zi Tao Yu won with a fifth set score of 11-8 at the #2 spot and senior Walter Huffman was victorious with a final set score of 11-9 at the #8 spot
Sophomore Joseph Toth and first-year Fares Khairy won their matches in straight sets at the #3 and #5 spots, respectively
