#16 Amherst triumph over #24 Bates in eighth win of the season, 6-3

AMHERST, MA — The #16 Amherst College men's squash team secured an excellent win on Sunday afternoon, defeating the #24 Bates College Bobcats on the Davenport Squash Courts with a score of 6-3. The Mammoths downed the Bobcats, who started the match with a 3-3 season record, to earn their eighth win of the season and fourth versus a NESCAC team. 

Up next: today, the Mammoths improved their season record to 8-4 and 4-1 versus NESCAC teams. On Wednesday January 29, Amherst will look to build off of their win over Bates as they travel to face their NESCAC and Little Three rivals, the #12 Williams College Ephs. The match is set for 5pm ET in Williamstown, MA in the Simon Squash Center. Williams currently hold a season record of 8-3. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Three of the matches were decided in five-set matches. Amherst demonstrated impressive stamina to prevail in all three of them through senior Matthew Granovsky, senior Walter Huffman, and junior Jesse Brew at the #6, #7, and #9 spots, respectively. 
  • Sophomore Joseph Toth won most comfortably for the Mammoths in straight sets, dropping just 11 points in his 22-minute victory.
  • Bates got the upper hand of Amherst at the #1, #2, and #4 spots to win three out of the nine matches.
