SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Nine members of the Amherst College men's track and field team earned All-New England honors on the final day of the New England Division III Outdoor Championships on Saturday at Mount Holyoke College.
Combined with the two Mammoths who earned All-New England honors yesterday, awarded to the top eight finishers in each event, the Mammoths tallied 36 points to tie for fourth out of 43 teams competing in the meet. MIT won its ninth consecutive championship with 108.5 points.
The Mammoths will be in action again next weekend, competing in the Farley Inter-Regional Extravaganza at Williams College on Friday and Saturday (May 10-11).
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Senior
Ian Dopp was the runner-up in the 3000m steeplechase, completing the event in 9:20.09 to earn his second career All-New England honor. First-year
Harrison Talcott was eighth in the event with a time of 9:37.29.
* Sophomore
Cody Pierce sprinted to his third career All-New England finish with a fourth-place finish in the 200m, posting a time of 21.97 seconds.
* A trio of Mammoths finished together to earn All-New England honors in the 1500m. First-year
Stan Craig clocked in with a season-best time of of 3:55.95 to finish fifth. Sophomore
Henry Dennen was just behind at 3:55.99 to place sixth for his fourth career All-New England honor. Sophomore
Aidan Gemme was seventh with a personal-best time of 3:56.96 to earn his first career All-New England award.
* Senior
Gabe dos Santos earned his fourth career All-New England honor in the high jump, clearing 1.94m to place sixth.
* Junior
David Brown repeated as an All-New England finisher in the discus with a throw of 45.11m to claim sixth place.
* Sophomore
Ben Davis repeated as an All-New England finisher in the 800m, clocking in at 1:52.70 to place seventh. Davis has now earned All-New England honors in all six events he has entered over four career NED3 Championships.
