Charlie Spurrell and senior
Adrian Friedman earned All-New England honors to highlight action for the Amherst College men's track and field team on the first day of the New England Division III Outdoor Championships on Friday at Mount Holyoke College.
Spurrell placed sixth in the hammer throw with a season-best toss of 53.19m to earn his third career All-New England award.
Friedman notched a seventh-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.77m to earn his fourth career All-New England honor.
In other action, first-year
Santi Benbow posted a mark of 50.91m in the javelin throw to place 19th and junior
Kevin Ryu was 21st with a throw of 48.47m. Benbow is also competing in the decathlon, where he posted personal bests of 52.34 seconds in the 400m and 8.75m in the shot put. The decathlon concludes on Saturday.
With 6 of 22 events contested on Friday, the small contingent of Mammoths competing has tallied five points in the team standings, tied for 15th of the 34 teams in action on Friday.
The New England Division III Championships continue on Saturday (May 4) at Mount Holyoke beginning at 10 a.m.
