MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Junior
Eliza Cardwell of the Amherst College women's track and field team earned All-America First Team honors with an eighth-place finish in the 100m hurdles on the final day of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships on Saturday at Shaw Memorial Stadium.
Cardwell ran a time of 14.07 seconds in the final, matching her school-record time from Friday's preliminary heats and earning her third All-America First Team finish of an outstanding junior year after posting sixth-place finishes in the 60m hurdles and long jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. All-America honors are awarded to the top 16 finishers in each individual event with the top eight earning first-team recognition.
Cardwell's finish gave the Mammoths one point in the team standings, placing Amherst in a tie for 81st place out of 131 teams represented at the national championship meet. Amherst scored in the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the 19th time since 1995 and conclude the season with four All-America performances. WashU won its first championship since 2017 with 71 points.
