CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior
David Brown broke his own school record in the discus as the Amherst College men's track and field team competed at the MIT Final Qualifier on Friday, looking to qualify for the upcoming NCAA Championships on the last day of competition before selections are finalized.
Selections for the NCAA Division III Championships will be announced on Friday (May 17) with the top 22 athletes in individual events and top 16 teams in each relay event earning a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to compete for national championships from May 23-25.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Brown set a new Amherst school record in the discus with a throw of 49.40m, breaking the mark of 47.06m he set earlier this season at the Amherst Spring Fling. Brown finished second in the event.
* Sophomore
Ben Davis and first-year
Parker Boyle each won their heats in the 800m. Davis won the event in 1:52.33 and Boyle was second overall in 1:52.36.
* Senior
Benjamin Bell and sophomores
Cody Pierce,
Alexander Nichols and
Jordan Harrison won the 4x100m relay, running a time of 41.21 seconds in the preliminaries before clocking in at 41.47 seconds in the final.
