WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Sophomore Paari Kaviyarasu won all of his matches as the Amherst College men's golf team finished second at the Little Three Championship on Tuesday at Taconic Golf Club, defeating Wesleyan but falling to Williams.

The tournament is played in a unique three-ball format in which each team plays simultaneous match play duals against each of the other two teams. Each team has four pairs play alternate shot matches in the morning before eight singles matches in the afternoon. The scores of the three duals are added to determine the Little Three champion.

The Mammoths defeated Wesleyan, 9-3, but fell to Williams, 9.5-3.5. Williams defeated Wesleyan, 9.5-2.5, to claim the Little Three crown with 19 total points. Amherst was second with 12.5 points and Wesleyan tallied 5.5 points.

The Mammoths are back in action this weekend, competing for the NESCAC Championship on Saturday and Sunday (April 27-28) at Brunswick Golf Club in Brunswick, Maine. Tee times begin at 9:30 a.m. each day. Amherst's Steven Chen was one of four individual co-champions at last year's championship.

TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS:

* Chen and Kaviyarasu won their morning foursome matches against both Wesleyan and Williams, while seniors Ben Byman and Jay Lassiter won their match against Wesleyan, as did senior Tommy Whitley and first-year Leland Tsai.

* Kaviyarasu and Tsai each won their singles matches against both Wesleyan and Williams, while Lassiter, Whitley and junior Teddy Freking also picked up wins against the Cardinals.
