WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Three Mammoths carded scores of 75 on Sunday as the Amherst College men's golf team moved up the leaderboard to earn a fourth-place finish at the Williams Spring Invitational at the par-71 Taconic Golf Club.
The Mammoths shot 301 (+17) as a team on Sunday to finish with a two-day team total of 601 (+33) and claim fourth place in the nine-team field after opening the day in sixth place.
Junior
Steven Chen finished fourth on the individual leaderboard with a two-round score of 145 (+3) after shooting a 4-over 75 on Sunday. Chen led the 57-golfer field on par-4s, shooting 1-over for the tournament.
Host Williams won the team title at 586 (+18) after leading the field with a 294 (+10) on Sunday. Trinity junior Benjamin Boyd earned medalist honors with an even-par 142.
Sophomore
Paari Kaviyarasu and first-year
Rhys Burgess also carded scores of 75 on Sunday. Kaviyarasu finished at 154 (+12) overall to tie for 26th and Burgess finished with a 157 (+15) to tie for 35th place alongside fellow first-year
Leland Tsai.
Senior
Tommy Whitley shot a 5-over 76 on Sunday to finish the tournament tied for 21st place at 153 (+11). Junior
Teddy Freking tied for 18th in the tournament at 152 (+10).
The Mammoths return to Taconic Golf Club on Tuesday (April 23) to compete against ancient rivals Williams and Wesleyan for the Little Three Championship.
