NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Amherst College men's track and field team posted a top-five finish in all three events contested on Friday in the opening day of competition at the Carla Coffey Invitational at Smith College.
The Mammoths will be back at Smith on Saturday (April 13), where a full slate of track and field action begins at 9 a.m. for the final day of the Coffey Invitational. Amherst will also have a contingent at Bucknell University for the Bison Outdoor Classic, where action gets underway at noon.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Sophomore
Charlie Spurrell was the runner-up in the hammer with a throw of 52.60m. Senior
Hugh Lemmon-Kishi placed sixth in the event with a personal-best mark of 45.56m.
* First-year
Alec Kuzyk cleared 4.40m in the pole vault to place fourth.
* Junior
Kevin Ryu finished fifth in the javelin with a throw of 46.17m.
* At the halfway mark of the decathlon, sophomore
Zach Villegas sits in fifth place with 2802 points and junior
Alex Robin is in seventh with 2621 points. Middlebury first-year Caleb Smith has the lead with 3571 points with the second half of the decathlon to be contested on Saturday.
* With 3 of 20 events complete, the Mammoths have tallied 20 points in the team standings to rank third out of the 11 teams competing. Tufts leads with 31 points.
