VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Junior
Eliza Cardwell of the Amherst College women's track and field team finished sixth in the nation in the 60m hurdles to earn First Team All-America honors in a second event on the final day of the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships on Saturday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
After breaking her own Amherst school record in Friday's preliminaries with a time of 8.60 seconds, Cardwell ran a time of 8.68 seconds in the finals to finish sixth and nab First Team All-America honors in a second event after also finishing sixth in the long jump on Friday. First Team All-America honors are awarded to the top eight finishers in each event.
Cardwell's two sixth-place finishes earned the Mammoths six team points to tie Amherst for 32nd overall, Amherst's highest score and best finish since 2015. Loras won its second championship in the last three years with 51 points.
With the indoor season complete, the Mammoths now turn their attention to the outdoor season, which begins on Saturday, March 23, with the Swanson Spring Classic at Wesleyan University.
