SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Amherst College women's track and field team emerged as the top Division III squad after a full day of action at the Black and Gold Invitational on Saturday at Bryant University.
In a meet featuring athletes from all three NCAA divisions as well as unattached athletes, first-year
Emma Ramsingh broke the Amherst school record in the discus and the Mammoths finished as the top Division III team in the team standings with 59 points to place sixth overall behind five Division I programs.
The Mammoths return to action next Saturday (April 6), hosting the Amherst Spring Fling with action beginning at 11 a.m.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Ramsingh broke the Amherst record in the discus in her first collegiate start in the event with a throw of 39.24m to finish sixth overall as the top Division III finisher in the field. Ramsingh broke the previous record of 39.12m set by Heidi Gabrielson '85 that had stood since 1985, the oldest women's record that was still on Amherst's record board. Fellow first-year
Isabella Niemi was the second Division III finisher, placing 11th overall with a mark of 35.23m in her first collegiate discus event.
* The Mammoths finished second in the 4x400m relay behind only Division I Bryant. Sophomore

Casie Eifrig posted a time of 3:56.30, which ranks among the top 10 in Division III so far this season.

Julia Schor placed second in the 5000m and was the top Division III finisher with a time of 17:23.66 in her first finish at that distance, a time that ranks among the top 20 in Division III so far this season.
* Marcus and Lentz were also the top Division III finishers in the 1500m with both making their first collegiate starts at that distance. Marcus was the top first-year in the event, clocking in at 4:39.86 to finish fourth overall behind three Division I runners with a time that ranks among the top 20 in Division III so far this season. Lentz placed sixth with a time of 4:44.85.

Myeh Medina led a trio of Mammoths who scored in the 400m hurdles. Medina placed third with a personal-best time of 1:05.96. Junior
Artis Phillips was seventh in 1:08.48 and Rabb placed eighth with a time of 1:08.69 in her first collegiate hurdles race.

Anastasia Ioppolo were the top Division III finishers in the triple jump. Medina placed fifth with a mark of 10.96m in her first outdoor triple jump competition and Ioppolo was seventh at 10.49m.

Muffie Mazambani finished eighth in the long jump with a leap of 5.31m to place as the top Division III finisher.
* Sophomore
Halle Hanna placed ninth in the 400m with a time of 1:01.37 in her first action of the outdoor season.
