SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Three Mammoths won events and a school record fell as the Amherst College men's track and field team competed at the Black and Gold Invitational on Saturday at Bryant University.
In a meet featuring athletes from all three NCAA divisions as well as unattached athletes, the Mammoths placed second overall in the team standings with 132.5 points, behind only Division I Bryant, who won their home meet with 141.5 points.

David Brown broke the Amherst record in the discus.
The Mammoths return to action next Saturday (April 6), hosting the Amherst Spring Fling with action beginning at 11 a.m.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Nichols finished atop the field of 45 sprinters in the 100m dash with a personal-best time of 10.81 seconds for the first individual win of his collegiate career.
* Pierce led a field of 32 to win the 200m dash in 22.08 seconds, an outdoor collegiate best for the sophomore and his first collegiate win in an individual event.
* Barrett and senior
Gabe dos Santos were the top two finishers in the triple jump. Barrett won the event with a personal-best mark of 13.34m in his outdoor collegiate debut. Dos Santos was just behind, achieving a mark of 13.22m on his first attempt, an outdoor personal best.
* Brown broke the Amherst school record in the discus with a mark of 45.91m, breaking the mark of 45.81m set by Frederick Sayles '62 that had stood since 1962. Brown was the top Division III finisher and second overall in the event. First-year
Jacob Shine placed seventh in the event with a personal-best throw of 41.55m in his second collegiate discus event.
* The Mammoths finished second in the 4x400m relay behind only Division I Bryant. Junior

Kolya Markov-Riss posted a time of 3:20.84, which ranks among the top 20 in Division III so far this season.

Adrian Friedman led a trio of Mammoths who scored in the long jump. Friedman was the top Division III finisher and placed third overall with a mark of 6.77m on his first attempt. Junior
Yeob Kim was sixth with a jump of 6.50m and Barrett placed eighth at 6.33m.

Alex Robin was the top Division III finisher in the high jump, finishing in a tie for third. Dos Santos tied for fifth as both Mammoths cleared the bar at 1.83m.

Stan Craig were the top Division III finishers in the 5000m. Dennen placed third with a time of 14:35.30, a time that ranks among the top 20 in Division III so far this season. Craig was the top first-year in the event, finishing fifth in 14:49.17 in his first collegiate race at that distance.
* Senior
Alton Machen placed third in the 110m hurdles in 15.32 seconds and sophomore
Noah Kanahele Harris was just behind, finishing fourth in 15.58 seconds as both Mammoths were making their season debuts. Harris was also the top Division III finisher in the 400m hurdles, winning his heat with a personal-best time of 57.44 seconds to finish fifth overall behind four Division I hurdlers.
* Pierce and Dreher were the top Division III finishers in the 400m. Pierce finished fourth overall in a personal-best 49.29 seconds and Dreher placed ninth in 51.00 seconds.
* First-year
Alec Kuzyk and Robin were the top Division III finishers in the pole vault. Kuzyk cleared 4.13m in his outdoor debut to place fifth overall and Robin was just behind, clearing 3.83m.
* Sophomore
Charlie Spurrell placed fifth in the hammer with a throw of 53.07m, a mark that ranks among the top 20 in Division III so far this season.
