Carolina Andrade and sophomore
Morgan Rome were the top Division III finishers in the javelin as the Amherst College women's track and field team kicked off the weekend on Friday at the Black and Gold Invitational at Bryant University.
In a meet featuring athletes from all three NCAA divisions, Andrade finished third overall behind two Division I athletes in the javelin with a throw of 39.47m, a mark that ranks among the top 10 in Division III so far this season. Rome placed ninth with a mark of 36.69m.
First-year
Daphne Witherell finished fifth in the 10,000m, crossing in 38:17.12 in her first collegiate 10k. Sophomore
Allison Lounsbury was just behind, placing sixth in 38:24.24 in her first action of the outdoor season. Both times are among the top 20 in Division III so far this season.
Only three events were contested on Friday with the rest of the meet taking place on Saturday (March 30) beginning at 10:30 a.m. The meet is team scored and after the first day of action, the Mammoths are fourth overall and the top Division III team in the team standings with 15 points. Host Bryant leads with 29 points.
