GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Amherst College women's swimming and diving team earned All-America honors in three more events on the final day of the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Junior
Sydney Bluestein and first-years
Maeve Kelley and
Lucy Smith added Second Team All-America honors to the accolades they already received at this year's championship meet. Second Team All-America honors are awarded to the 9th through 16th place finishers in each event.
Bluestein won the consolation final of the three-meter diving competition to finish ninth in the nation with an 11-dive score of 453.15. Bluestein leaves Greensboro as an All-American in both diving events for the second year in a row.
Kelley finished 12th in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:10.12, earning All-America honors in a third event at her national championship debut.
Smith placed 12th in the 100-yard freestyle with a personal-best time of 51.26 seconds, also earning All-America honors in a third event in her rookie season. Fellow first-year
Paige Arnold also competed in the 100 free, touching in 51.70 seconds in the preliminaries to tie for 31st overall.
Arnold and Smith also teamed up with seniors
Lauren Eng and
Grace Walker to compete in the 400-yard freestyle relay and placed 19th in the morning prelims with a time of 3:29.76.
The Mammoths finished the meet in 16th place with 59 points, scoring at the national championship meet for the 36th straight season in Amherst's first season under head coach
Connor Beaulieu '14. The Mammoths leave the meet with a total of eight All-America honors, including first-team accolades for Bluestein and Kelley. Kenyon won the team title for the second time in the last three years with 448 points.
