Amherst first-years dominate as Mammoths take down Middlebury

The Amherst women's swim and dive team took down Middlebury College in a dominating performance on Saturday afternoon, winning 183-117.

Amherst returns to the pool tomorrow afternoon in a dual meet against Wesleyan College. The meet will begin at 12pm in Pratt Pool.


MEET HIGHLIGHTS

  • First-years Penny Lazar and Hope Taylor continued their dominant performances today, with both swimmers winning two events. Lazar finished first in the 800 and 300 freestyle and Taylor took first in the 150 backstroke and 200 IM.
  • First year Ava Insteness had strong performances today, too, earning a first place and two second place finishes. Insteness finished first in the 150 freestyle, with a time of 1:25.59.
  • The 150 Freestyle was dominated by Amherst swimmers, with Insteness, Lucy Smith, and Alex Zorn earning first, second, and fourth, respectively.
  • The Mammoths also dominated in both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving events. Donna Zhang earned first place in both events, with Brooke Ronan and Zoluntu Radebe earning second and third.
  • Amherst finished the meet with a dominant, first place swim in the 400 Freestyle relay. The relay was comprised of Smith, Sydney Thompson, Lazar, and Paige Arnold.
