Maeve Kelley and
Lucy Smith of the Amherst College women's swimming and diving team each earned All-America honors on the first day of the NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Kelley finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle to earn First Team All-America honors, awarded to the top eight finishers in each event. She touched in 4:51.53, moving up from fifth to fourth on the final lap.
Smith placed 16th in the 50-yard freestyle to earn Second Team All-America honors, awarded to the 9th through 16th place finishers. She swam the final in 23.62 seconds after posting a time of 23.46 in the morning prelims.
First-year
Paige Arnold was also in action on the first day of the championships, placing 44th in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:08.04.
Through the first day of competition, the Mammoths are tied for 13th in the team standings with 16 points. Defending champion Denison leads the meet with 95 points.
The national championship meet continues on Thursday (March 21) with preliminary heats at 10 a.m. to qualify for the finals at 6 p.m. Among the Mammoths in action tomorrow will be junior
