AMHERST, MA – The #6 Amherst College women's tennis team bounced back on Sunday afternoon to beat the #21 Brandeis University Judges with a score of 6-3. Starting at noon, the game took place in Amherst's home indoor courts at Ludlow Tennis Center because of inclement weather.

Getting their first win of the season on the board improves the Mammoths' record to 1-1 (0-1 in NESCAC). Up next: the Mammoths' next games are against non-conference opponents on their spring break trip around Los Angeles. Amherst will take on five top-40 teams during a week-long stay in Southern California. Amherst's first opponents are the #22 University of Redlands Bulldogs. The Bulldogs will host the Mammoths at 1pm ET on Sunday, March 17, at the Jim Verdieck Tennis Courts in Redlands, CA.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • With the score tied at seven games apiece, two of the three doubles matches went to deciding tiebreaks; the Mammoths prevailed at the #1 spot but fell short at the #3 spot.
  • Junior Amy Cui and Sophomore Sophie Diop both fought back from losing the first set to win at the #2 and #3 spots.
  • First-years Lily Dounchis and Greta Stechschulte earned their first singles wins of their respective college careers with straight-set victories at the #4 and #5 spots.
