Three Mammoths win events at Tufts Cupid Challenge

MEDFORD, Mass. – Sophomore Ben Davis' win in the 600m, rookie Parker Boyle's victory the 1000m, and classmate Michael Abbey's first-place finish in the triple jump were the featured performances for the Amherst College men's track and field team at the Tufts Cupid Challenge on Saturday.

The Mammoths will resume competition next weekend (Feb. 9-10) at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational and at the Middlebury Field & Track Meet (Feb. 10). 

MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

* Davis delivered a personal best time of 1:21.04 to secure the overall victory in the 600m. The performance is ranked fourth all time in Amherst indoor track and field program history and is a Division III New England Championship qualifying mark. 

* Boyle led the entire race en route to a 2:31.75 victory in the 1000m. Boyle's 1000m debut marks the freshman's first individual collegiate win and is a New England Qualifying time.

* In Abbey's triple jump debut, the freshman recorded a winning mark of 13.38m and qualified for the Division III New England Championship. 

* Finishing second in the 600m, Kolya Markov-Riss recorded a season best of 1:22.03 and qualified for the Division III New England Championship.

* Producing an indoor personal record in the 400m, Jai Dreher posted a New England Championship qualifying time of 51.24, placing third overall. 

* In the 800m, Ian Dopp registered a personal record and Division III New England Championship qualifying time of 1:59.02.

* Stan Craig posted a personal best time of 4:21.59 in the mile while securing a spot at the New England Championship. 

* Harrison Dow finished ninth in the 3000m with a personal record of 8:45.17, qualifying for the Division III New England Championship.

* In the long jump, Adrian Friedman recorded a season best and New England Championship qualifying standard with a third place overall finish. 

* Jacob Shine placed seventh overall in the shot put with a personal record of 13.41m, qualifying the rookie for the Division III New England Championship. 

* In the weight throw, David Brown finished third delivering a personal record mark of 15.72m and qualifying for the New England Championship. Hugh Lemmon-Kishi also posted a personal best and Division III New England qualifying standard of 14.49m with his ninth place finish. 

* Continuing a strong performance in the heptathlon, Santi Benbow set an overall personal record of 3321 points. Benbow produced personal best marks in the 60m (7.46 seconds), long jump (5.46m), shot put (7.72m), 60m hurdles (11.00 seconds), and 1000m (2:55.13).
