SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore
George Cahill won the 3000m to highlight action for the Amherst College men's track and field team at the Triangle Classic on Saturday at Springfield College.
The Mammoths are back in action next weekend as championship season begins with the New England Division III Indoor Championships. The heptathlon will take place on Friday (Feb. 23) and Saturday (Feb. 24) at Tufts University with the rest of the program on Sunday (Feb. 25) at the Track at New Balance in Boston.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Cahill won the 3000m as the Mammoths took the top two spots in the race. Cahill clocked in at 8:45.58 for his first win of the season and sophomore
Aidan Gemme was just behind in 8:46.25. Both Mammoths qualified for next weekend's New England Division III Championships.
* Senior
Hugh Lemmon-Kishi posted personal bests in fifth-place finishes in two throwing events, qualifying for the New England Division III Championships in the shot put with a throw of 13.67m and improving his top mark in the weight throw with a toss of 14.50m.
* First-year
Alec Kuzyk matched his season best in the pole vault, clearing 4.40m on his first attempt to tie for fourth.
