Juniors
David Brown and
Alex Robin won events as the Amherst College men's track and field team competed at both the Middlebury Field & Track Meet and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday.
Brown won the shot put and Robin won the high jump at Middlebury while several Mammoths posted season-best times at Boston University's Hemery Valentine Invitational. Both meets featured entrants from all three NCAA divisions.
The Mammoths return to action next Saturday (Feb. 17), competing in the Triangle Classic at Springfield College.
MIDDLEBURY MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Brown won the shot put with a season-best throw of 13.87m to qualify for the New England Division III Championships with his fifth career win in the event. Brown also placed second in the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 16.03m.
* Robin earned his first collegiate event win, clearing 1.85m in the high jump to tie for the win with VTSU Castleton sophomore Carter Mackey.
* Senior
Gabe dos Santos was the top Division III finisher in the triple jump, qualifying for the New England Division III Championships with a personal-best mark of 13.38m.
* Senior
Oliver Spiva was the top Division III finisher in the mile, clocking in with a personal-best 4:29.90 to finish seventh overall.
* First-year
Harrison Dow placed second in the 5000m to qualify for the New England Division III Championships in his first collegiate start in the event, posting a time of 15:10.89.
BOSTON UNIVERSITY MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Senior
Adrian Friedman placed sixth overall in the long jump with a season-best mark of 6.70m, a better mark than five of the Division I jumpers in the field.
* First-year
Stan Craig ran a collegiate-best time of 8:23.19 in the 3000m to finish 23rd overall in a field of 83 runners. Sophomore
Henry Dennen qualified for the New England Division III Championships with his time of 8:25.83 in his first 3000m start of the season.
