#19 Amherst continue flawless season record with marathon 5-4 win at #17 MIT

CAMBRIDGE, MA — On Wednesday, the #19 Amherst College men's squash team traveled to the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center to take on the #17 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Engineers in an evening match. The Mammoths continued their momentum from winning their first three matches of the season to beat the Engineers in a close 5-4 battle. 

Up Next:
The Mammoths' unbeaten season record now improves to 4-0 (2-0 versus NESCAC teams). Their next match is on the road again, rounding out a stretch of four consecutive away matches. Amherst will travel to Hanover, NH, on Friday to face the #12 Dartmouth College Big Green at 3:30pm on the Berry Squash Courts.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Two MIT players were forced to retire mid-match, handing Amherst victories at the #3 and #6 spots. 
  • The Mammoths showcased their endurance in two thrilling five-set matches. First-year Fares Khairy had nerves of steel at the #5 spot, clinching a dramatic 16-14 victory in the final set after a 78-minute battle. Similarly, junior Grady Herbert won his five-setter at the #8 spot.
  • Sophomore Joseph Toth secured Amherst's crucial fifth win at the #4 spot.
