HADLEY, Mass. -- Two members of the 2024 Amherst College field hockey team were accorded All-NESCAC honors, it was announced today.
Senior back
Kate Smith (St. Louis, MO).) earned All-NESCAC First Team honors while senior forward
Sam Maynard (Charlestown, Mass) was accorded All-NESCAC Second Team honors.
"Both Kate and Sam have been four year impact players in our program," said head coach
Carol Knerr. "Kate has been a rock in our backfield, playing a key role in starting our offensive transition with her aerial and deceptive sweep out of the backfield. Sam has been an offensive threat with her 3D elimination skills and has scored many exceptional goals over her career."
Smith earned First Team All-NESCAC honors for the first time after being named a 2nd Team Selection in 2023. She also garnered All-Region honors last season. This year, in addition to being a rock in the Mammoth back and being a key in the offensive transition, she scored 3 goals and assisted on 4 others for 10 total points.
She finished her career with 22 points (7 goals, 8 assists). She was a key reason the Mammoths allowed just 1.19 goals per game this season.
Maynard scored 4 goals and had 6 assists this season for a total of 14 points in 16 games. As a junior, she netted a career-high 15 goals, including four game-winners. She also scored hat tricks on three different occasions and earned All-Region and All-America honors.
In her career, Maynard played in 64 games and finished with 88 points (38 goals, 12 assists), including seven game-winning tallies.
