NEW LONDON, Conn. – Following a high-scoring fourth quarter,
Caroline Busler led Amherst to emerge with a 4-3 victory in overtime at Stagg Field on Saturday afternoon.
Amherst improved to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in NESCAC play, while the Camels fell to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
The Mammoths will return home to play their first home game of the season against WPI at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Gooding Field.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
*Sophomore
Emily Huehn tested the Camels less than one minute into the match, firing the ball towards the top right corner of the goal, but the shot glanced off the iron.
*Connecticut responded seven minutes later with their own chance as junior Sadie Gearan found the through run of sophomore Elizabeth Bonner inside the shooting circle, drawing a penalty corner.
*In the eighth minute of the first quarter, Huehn stopped two point-blank shots from the Camels after junior goaltender
Grace Puchalski was drawn off her goal line.
*The Mammoths grabbed the lead eight minutes into a contested second quarter. Huehn took a short touch on the left side of the circle, then sent the ball through a web of sticks to the right corner of the net.
*McGann gave Connecticut the equalizer six minutes into the third quarter. Gearan possessed the ball on the right side and then fired the ball across the circle. The shot ricocheted off the stick of senior Bridget McGann, then slammed into the net to tie the match 1-1.
*Amherst rolled back into the lead six minutes later as first-year
Bella Kim sent a powerful strike into the right side of the net to score her first collegiate goal for the Mammoths.
*The Camels equalized the margin 2-2 at the top of the fourth quarter as McGann settled a rebound in front of the goal, then connected with the net.
*Senior
Isa Lattuada recaptured the lead for the Mammoths with eleven minutes remaining in the quarter. Senior
Anna Aiello sent the ball rolling towards the right post, where Lattuada flicked the ball inside the frame to make it 3-2.
*A penalty stroke allowed the Camels to equalize and send the match to overtime with three minutes remaining. Senior Katie Dolan scored with a quick shot into the corner.

Emma Zhang found Busler near the right post, who then turned and flicked the ball into the net.

*Amherst held an offensive advantage, leading 18-13 in shots, 16-8 in shots on goal, and 10-8 in corners taken.
*Puchalski made 4 saves across 60 minutes for the Mammoths, while first-year Isabella Carnall made 12 saves across 65 minutes of play.
