AMHERST, Mass. – Down 1-0 for most of the match, Amherst leaned on a last-minute equalizer from first-year Emma Zhang and an overtime goal from sophomore Caroline Busler to pick up a 2-1 win against Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Wednesday night at Hill Field.
Amherst improved to 3-0 overall while WPI fell to 3-2 on the season. Next up, the Mammoths will host rival Williams on Saturday at 11 a.m. on Hill Field.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
*A steal from senior Anna Aiello gave Amherst its first scoring opportunity eleven minutes into the first quarter as the midfielder found senior Molly Donegan at the left post, but WPI goaltender Myles Lakin denied the shot.
*Amherst picked up another chance minutes later with a powerful drive by junior Maya Harrington from outside the circle. The ball hit the right post and rolled out for Amherst's possession.
*After a back-and-forth second quarter, WPI got on the board with less than a second left in the frame as senior Leah Uglevich caught junior Grace Puchalski off the goal line and sent the ball into the net.
*The Mammoths put together three penalty corners in the final five minutes of the third quarter to collect offensive chances, but none were converted into shots.
*Zhang delivered Amherst's equalizer with less than three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, aided by a drive into the circle from Genevieve Caruso. Caruso's deflected shot found the stick of Zhang, who quickly sank the ball into the left corner to score her first collegiate goal and send the match to overtime.
*Three minutes into overtime, senior Molly Donegan wove around two defenders on her path towards the left post, then passed across the frame towards Busler, who knocked the ball into the net to secure the 2-1 victory for the Mammoths.

*Amherst held an offensive advantage, leading 14-5 in shots, 12-4 in shots on goal, and 13-1 in corners.
*Puchalski made 4 saves in goal for the Mammoths while Lakin made 12 for the Goats.
