BOSTON – Senior
Kolya Markov-Riss won the 800m and helped the Mammoths win the distance medley relay as the Amherst College men's track and field team competed at Middlebury's New England Small College Invitational, a meet that brought all 11 NESCAC teams together at the Track at New Balance on Sunday.
The Mammoths return to action next weekend (Feb. 2-3), competing at the Tufts Cupid Challenge.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Running the event for the first time this season, Markov-Riss won the 800m in 1:56.13 to qualify for the New England Division III Championships in a second event.
* Markov-Riss teamed with first-year
Parker Boyle and sophomores
Will Nagy and
Henry Dennen to win the distance medley relay in 10:20.23, a top-10 time nationally in Division III so far this season.
* Five Mammoths qualified for the New England Division III Championships for the first time this season. Sophomore
Alexander Nichols ran the 60m in 7.05 seconds to finish fourth and ran the 200m in 22.65 seconds to place ninth, both personal bests that qualify for New Englands.

Cody Pierce qualified for New Englands in the 200m, running a personal-best 22.02 seconds.
* Senior
Theo Dassin placed second and sophomore
Henry Dennen was third in the 5000m, both qualifying for New Englands as Dassin ran a personal-best 14:51.38 and Dennen clocked in at 14:55.71 in his first collegiate indoor 5k.
* Competing in the event for the first time as a collegian, first-year
Stan Craig qualified for New Englands in the 3000m, finishing eighth in 8:37.41.
