MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Amherst College women's track and field team won the distance medley relay and the pole vault to highlight action on Saturday at the Middlebury Winter Classic.
Two Mammoths qualified for the New England Division III Championships with their performances: junior
Payton Sorensen in the pole vault and sophomore
Piper Lentz in the 600m.
Competing against athletes from all three NCAA divisions, the Mammoths placed third of 11 teams with 65.33 points. Host Middlebury won the meet with 254.33 points.
The Mammoths return to action next weekend on Sunday, Jan. 28, facing teams from across the NESCAC in Middlebury's New England Small College Invitational, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Track at New Balance in Boston.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Sorensen won the pole vault, clearing a personal-best 3.35m for her first collegiate win and qualifying for the New England Division III Championships.

Ava Zielinski and sophomore
Bella Lozier teamed up to win the distance medley relay with a time of 12:32.74 to pace a field that included squads from Divisions I and II. Amherst's mark is the best time this season from a New England Division III team and the second-best nationally in all of Division III.
* Lentz also placed second in the 600m, running the event for the first time in her collegiate career and qualifying for the New England Division III Championships with a time of 1:40.50.

Anaya Thomas had a strong second-place showing in the triple jump with a mark of 10.82m to place as the top Division III finisher in the field.
* First-year
Emma Ramsingh was second in the shot put with a throw of 11.08m, improving her mark from her collegiate debut last week.
