Ben Davis won the 1000m and classmate
Charlie Spurrell won the weight throw to highlight action for the Amherst College men's track and field team at the Middlebury Winter Classic on Saturday.

Parker Boyle each qualified for the New England Division III Championships with their performances at Middlebury.
In the team tally, the Mammoths placed sixth of 11 teams competing at the meet with 57 points as Division I Vermont finished on top with 166 points.
The Mammoths return to action next weekend on Sunday, Jan. 28, facing teams from across the NESCAC in Middlebury's New England Small College Invitational, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Track at New Balance in Boston.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Davis won the 1000m with a personal-best time of 2:29.72, the best time among New England Division III athletes so far this season. It was the third win in three events so far this indoor season for Davis and qualifies him for New Englands in a second event after qualifying in the 800m last weekend.
* Spurrell won the weight throw for the second straight week, matching his mark of 17.15m from last week's season opener.
* In his collegiate track debut, Boyle placed second overall and was the top Division III finisher in the 600m, qualifying for New Englands with a time of 1:23.80.

Alec Kuzyk cleared 4.40m on his first attempt in the pole vault, improving his mark from his collegiate debut last week to finish second in the event.
