MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Junior
Anaya Thomas finished second in her first collegiate pentathlon to lead a trio of multi-eventers from the Amherst College women's track and field team on Friday afternoon at the Middlebury Winter Classic.
Friday's pentathlon served as an appetizer to a full slate of track and field events at Middlebury on Saturday (Jan. 20) beginning at 9:35 a.m.
Thomas placed second in a field of seven and was the top Division III finisher with 2,859 points, qualifying her for the New England Division III Championships. Junior Briahnna Bouchard of Division II Franklin Pierce won the pentathlon with 2,899 points. Junior
Trintje Nydam placed third with 2,585 points and sophomore
Morgan Rome finished fourth with 2,487 points.
Thomas set personal bests in the 60m hurdles (9.38 seconds) and shot put (8.39m) and cleared 1.55m to lead the field in the high jump. Thomas and Nydam also each qualified for New Englands in the 60m hurdles.
