NEW LONDON, Conn. – First-year sprinter
Jordan Harrison and the Mammoths 4x800m relay team won NESCAC titles as the Amherst College men's track and field team finished third at the NESCAC Championships on Saturday at Connecticut College.
The Mammoths posted 13 All-NESCAC finishes, awarded to the top three finishers in each event, and set a new school record in the 4x100m relay.
Amherst finished the meet with 114.5 points to claim third place as Tufts successfully defended its conference crown, topping the field with 171 points.
Championship season continues next week as the Mammoths will compete in the New England Division III Championships, beginning Thursday (May 4) and running through Saturday (May 6) at Springfield College.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths continued their dominance in the 4x800m relay, winning their fourth straight NESCAC championship in the event. This year's quartet of juniors
Lev Robertson and
Braedon Fiume and first-years
Ben Davis and
Will Nagy posted a time of 7:48.09, the best time among New England Division III schools this season. Fiume was a part of last year's championship relay team, while Robertson, Davis and Nagy each won their first NESCAC title.
* Harrison claimed the title of the NESCAC's fastest man, winning the 100m dash in 10.82 seconds at his first conference championship. Harrison's victory marked a title defense for the Mammoths as
Henry Buren '22 won the event last year. Harrison also finished third in the 200m dash with a collegiate-best time of 21.76 seconds, which ranks in the top 10 among New England Division III schools this season.
* Harrison also anchored the 4x100m relay, teaming with junior
Benjamin Bell and fellow first-years
Cody Pierce and
Alexander Nichols to circle the track in 41.55 seconds, breaking the school record of 42.23 that same quartet set earlier this month at the Amherst Spring Fling. The Mammoths finished second in the event with a time that ranks among the top five in New England this season.
* Senior
Ellis Phillips-Gallucci finished second in the 400m hurdles, earning his third career All-NESCAC honor with a season-best time of 53.72 seconds, which ranks in the top 20 nationwide in Division III this season.
* Amherst finished in the top two spots in all three relays as the 4x400m squad finished in the runner-up position. Sophomores

Kolya Markov-Riss finished in 3:21.57.
* The Mammoths claimed two of the top three spots in the 800m as Davis finished second in 1:55.86 and Markov-Riss placed third with a time of 1:56.22.
* Amherst also notched two All-NESCAC finishes in the long jump as sophomore
Yeob Kim finished second with a season-best leap of 6.78m, ranking among the top 20 in New England, and junior
Adrian Friedman claimed third with a mark of 6.63m in the NESCAC Championship debut for each.
* Senior
Max Spelke placed third in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 52.06m, the second-best mark in school history, to earn his first All-NESCAC recognition.
* First-year
Charlie Spurrell earned All-NESCAC honors in his championship debut with a third-place finish in the hammer throw and a mark of 52.06m.
* Junior
Gabe dos Santos cleared 1.90m in the high jump, held on Friday, to place third and earn his first All-NESCAC accolades. Sophomore
Camden Heafitz also cleared 1.90m and finished fifth after tiebreakers were applied.
