#8 Amherst progresses to NESCAC Championship Semifinals with 5-1 win over #24 Bowdoin

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – In the NESCAC Championship Quarterfinals, #8 Amherst College eased past the #24 Bowdoin College Polar Bears with a score of 5-1. The match took place on Friday afternoon on the Proctor Tennis Courts at Middlebury College.

Amherst's record improves to 12-3 for the season. Up next: in the Semifinals of the NESCAC Championship, Amherst will take on the #5 Wesleyan University Cardinals. The game is a repeat of the 2022 semifinal in which the Cardinals won 5-4. The game will take place on the Hunt Tennis Courts in Williamstown, Mass.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Mammoths swept the doubles matches, including an 8-7 (7-2) tiebreaker win by first-year Sophie Diop and sophomore Mia Kintiroglou at the #3 spot.
  • Bowdoin's Cara Hung gave the Polar Bears their only point with a win versus senior Calista Sha at the #4 spot.
  • First-years Sophie Diop and Karolina Dobiecka secured the two singles victories that Amherst needed to clinch the match.
  • Amherst proceeds to the NESCAC Championship Semifinals for the third consecutive season and 14th time overall.
