Box Score 2 AMHERST, Mass. -- The Amherst College softball team was dealt a pair of one-run losses Wednesday at the Amherst College Softball Field, dropping 1-0 and 3-2 decisions to Western New England University.
The Mammoths fell to 17-11 overall while the Golden Bears improved to 19-11, Next up for Amherst, the Mammoths travel to Williamstown to take on rival Williams College Friday for a doubleheader that begins at 3:30 p.m.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:
* The opener was a pitcher's dual between WNE's Megan Beebe and Mammoth sophomore
Dani Torres Werra. Each pitcher ultimately threw a complete-game gem, but the Golden Bears pushed across a run in the top of the fourth inning and that was the difference.
* Cori Rizzo's double drove in the only run of the game in the fourth.
* The Mammoth's best threat came in the seventh but developed quickly and was quickly extinguished.
Megan Taketa lined an opposite-field single with one out and
Rachel Lovejoy blooped a single into the right field immediately after. However, while Taketa raced to third, Lovejoy was thrown out at the second base for the second out of the inning. Torres Werra lined out to the right field to end the scoring threat.
* Torres Werra allowed five hits and one walk while striking out four over seven innings. Beebe limited the Mammoths to three hits while walking only one and striking out two.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:
* A one-out, RBI-single by Riley Kane brought home what proved to be the game-winner for WNE in the top of the sixth.
* A pair of
Autumn Lee RBI-singles in the first and third gave Amherst a 2-1 lead.
*
Abby Moravek started for Amherst and took the loss, She also pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and three walks while fanning six.
* The Mammoths had six hits in the loss. Lee was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI. Torres Werra was 1 for 3 and a walk and scored both Mammoth runs.
