MEDFORD, Mass. – The Amherst College men's track and field team won three events at the Tufts Cupid Challenge on Saturday at the Gantcher Center.
Junior
Kolya Markov-Riss won the 600m, first-year
Charlie Spurrell won the weight throw and the Mammoths won the 4x400m relay.
A total of 13 Mammoths qualified for the New England Division III Championships in new events, including four who qualified in their first event this season. The Mammoths finished second in the field of nine teams at the meet, scoring 147.5 points. Host Tufts won the event with 158 points.
The Mammoths will be back in action with two meets next weekend (Feb. 10-11), competing in the Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University on Friday and Saturday, as well as the Middlebury Field and Track Meet on Saturday.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

Kolya Markov-Riss and sophomore
Jack O'Hara took the top two spots in the 600m. Markov-Riss ran a personal-best 1:21.58 to qualify for the New England Division III Championships in his third event after previously qualifying in the 800m and 1000m. O'Hara was just behind, also with a personal best at 1:21.86.

Charlie Spurrell won the weight throw with a season-best throw of 17.19m. In Spurrell's first collegiate meet, he posted the third-best weight throw mark in Amherst history and has improved on that mark in each of the three meets since.

Gabe dos Santos and sophomore
Tom Ye teamed up to win the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:25.58, the best time for an Amherst quartet this season.
