The Amherst College men's track and field team competed across New England on Saturday, winning four events at the Middlebury Field and Track Meet while posting times among the nation's best competing against athletes from all three NCAA divisions and beyond on the banked track at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University.
In all, six Mammoths qualified for the New England Division III Championships in new events, three of whom qualified in their first event this season.
The Mammoths will return to action next Saturday (Feb. 18), competing in the Triangle Classic at Springfield College at 10:30 a.m.
HEMERY VALENTINE INVITATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS:
* Junior
Kolya Markov-Riss clocked a personal-best time of 1:51.81 in the 800m to finish 50th in a field of over 300 runners with a time that ranks among the top 20 nationally in Division III this season.
* First-year
Jordan Harrison ran a season-best time of 22.37 seconds in the 200m to finish 78th.
* First-year
Henry Dennen clocked a season-best time of 8:19.55 to finish 141st in the 3000m.
MIDDLEBURY FIELD & TRACK MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Sophomore
Yeob Kim notched his first two collegiate wins, capturing both the 60m dash and the long jump. Kim posted a time of 7.26 seconds in the 60m and a personal-best mark of 6.55m to qualify for the New England Division III Championships in the long jump. The best time of the day in the 60m belonged to first-year
Alexander Nichols, who clocked a time of 7.22 seconds to win the preliminaries and did not run in the final. Junior
Adrian Friedman was second in the long jump, just a centimeter shy of Kim with a mark of 6.54m.
* Junior
Gabe dos Santos won the high jump and the triple jump, clearing 1.80m in the high jump and recording a mark of 13.19m in the triple jump. Dos Santos defended his high jump title from this meet last season and swept the two events for the second time in his career. First-year
Zach Villegas was second in the high jump at 1.60m as the two Mammoths were the only competitors to clear the bar.
