Huang shoots final-round 68 as Mammoths finish 12th at NCAA Championships

HOUSTON – First-year All-American Jessica Huang shot a 4-under 68 in Friday's final round to lead the Amherst College women's golf team to a 12th-place finish at the 2022 NCAA Division III Championships at the par-72 Bay Oaks Country Club.

The NESCAC champion Mammoths posted a 304 (+16) in the final round, Amherst's best round of the tournament, to finish 12th overall with a four-round total score of 1239 (+87), Amherst's best-ever score at the NCAA Championships.

Huang's 4-under round was tied for the best round of the tournament alongside the second round of individual champion Ellen Dong of Emory. Huang's round included five birdies and only one bogey. It was the best-ever round for an Amherst golfer at the NCAA Championships and Huang's four-round total score of 296 (+8) placed her 13th overall among individuals with the best-ever total score for an Amherst golfer at the NCAA Championships.

Fellow first-year All-American Gihoe Seo finished tied for 38th overall at 307 (+19) after shooting a 6-over 78 in the final round that included a birdie on the fifth hole.

Sophomore Priya Bakshi carded a 5-over 77, highlighted by a birdie on the 12th hole, for her best round of the tournament to finish tied for 65th overall at 320 (+32).

Junior Janelle Jin tied for 69th overall with a total score of 322 (+34).

Sophomore Jenny Hua finished one stroke behind at 323 (+35) to tie for 71st place after concluding the week with a 9-over 81.

Emory won its first championship with a total score of 1175 (+23), 26 strokes better than second-place Redlands.
