HOUSTON – The Amherst College women's golf team will be one of the 15 teams playing in the final round of the NCAA Division III Championships after the Mammoths posted a 310 (+22) in Thursday's third round at the par-72 Bay Oaks Country Club.
The NESCAC champion Mammoths made the cut that trimmed the field of 29 teams down to 15 and enter the final round of the four-day stroke play tournament with a three-day total score of 935 (+71) to remain in 13th place. Each team's best four scores each day are totaled to determine the team score.
First-year All-American
Jessica Huang led the Mammoths in the third round, shooting a 3-over 75 for the second day in a row with a round that included three birdies to tie for 28th on the individual leaderboard with a three-round total of 228 (+12).
Fellow first-year All-American
Gihoe Seo also made three birdies in the round and finished with a 5-over 77 for a three-round total of 229 (+13) to tie for 32nd place.
Sophomore
Priya Bakshi and junior
Janelle Jin each carded a 7-over 79 in the round. After starting from the 10th hole, Jin shot even par on the front nine with three birdies in the round to tie for 60th place at 238 (+22). Bakshi enters the final round tied for 80th at 243 (+27).
Emory remains atop the leaderboard after shooting a tournament-record 291 (+3) in the third round to take a 24-stroke lead over second-place Redlands into the final round. Emory first-year Ellen Dong is the individual leader with a three-stroke lead at 215 (-1).
Amherst's tee times begin at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time for the final round on Friday (May 13).
