HOUSTON – First-year
Gihoe Seo shot an even par round as the Amherst College women's golf team moved up to 13th place after the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday at the par-72 Bay Oaks Country Club.
The NESCAC champion Mammoths shot 308 (+20) as a team on the day, a nine-stroke improvement from the first round, on the second day of the four-day stroke play tournament and have a two-day total score of 625 (+49). Each team's best four scores each day are totaled to determine the team score.
Seo, the newly minted NESCAC Golfer of the Year, shot a 72 for an eight-stroke improvement from the first round and moved into a tie for 25th place among the individual leaders in the 151-golfer field.
Fellow first-year
Jessica Huang shot three strokes better than the first round to card a 3-over 75 and finish the day tied for 28th place.
Junior
Janelle Jin posted a 7-over 79 to hold steady in a tie for 61st place and sophomore
Jenny Hua came in with a 10-over 82 to tie for 82nd place.
Emory remains atop the leaderboard in the 29-team field with a two-day total score of 588 (+12) for a 14-stroke lead over Pomona-Pitzer. NYU graduate student Aliea Clark has moved into the individual lead with a two-day Toal score of 142 (-2).
The tournament continues on Thursday (May 12) with Amherst's tee times beginning at 1:30 p.m. Eastern time. After Thursday's third round, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and 6 individuals not on those teams for Friday's final round.
