Mammoths win nine events at Amherst Spring Fling

AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College men's track and field team won nine events at the Amherst Spring Fling, hosted by Amherst on Saturday at the Neuhoff-Lumley Track, Hitchcock Field and Coolidge Cage.

The Mammoths are back in action next weekend, competing in the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College on Saturday, April 16, at 9 a.m.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

* Sophomore Benjamin Bell, seniors Henry Buren and Matthew Gelin and sophomore Theodore Woodward teamed up to win the 4x100m relay in 42.78.

* Buren won both the 100m and 200m sprints. His time of 22.08 in the 200m qualified him for the NEICAAA Championships and his mark of 10.90 in the 100m is a season best.

* The Mammoths took the top three spots in the 5000m run. Senior Ajay Sarathy won the event in 15:11.29, junior Keon Mazdisnian was second with a personal-best 15:12.85 and sophomore Theo Dassin was third with a personal-best 15:16.48 in his outdoor collegiate debut. All three qualified for the New England Division III Championships.

* Sophomore Wilson Spurrell won the 800m run with a time of 1:55.53. First-year Nick Edwards-Levin was fourth in 1:56.98 and sophomore Braedon Fiume was fifth in 1:57.39. All three qualified for the New England Division III Championships in their outdoor collegiate debuts.

* Junior Kelechi Eziri won the long jump with a personal-best leap of 6.80m to qualify for the New England Division III Championships.

* Sophomore Gabriel dos Santos captured the triple jump title with a wind-aided mark of 13.11m, a personal-best that qualifies him for the New England Division III Championships.

* Senior Troy Colleran was the victor in an all-Amherst pole vault event. Colleran cleared 4.45m to qualify for the New England Division III Championships.

* First-year David Brown won the discus with a personal-best mark of 43.89m.

* Junior Jack Trent finished second in the 110m hurdles, crossing in 15.68 in his first collegiate start in the event. Senior Troy Colleran was fourth in 15.92 in his first hurdles race of the spring and sophomore Alton Machen clocked in at 16.07 to finish fifth in his first collegiate hurdles race. All three Mammoths qualified for the New England Division III Championships in the event.
