SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Amherst College men's track and field team opened Day 1 of the New England Division III Championships with impactful performances in both throwing and field events, earning crucial points and establishing momentum early in the meet.
Senior
Charlie Spurrell led the charge with a standout performance in the hammer throw, placing second overall with a mark of 54.77 meters. His finish earned eight points for Amherst
and highlighted his ability to compete at the top of the field on a championship stage.
First-year
Manav Bhatia added to the scoring effort in the javelin throw, placing sixth with a distance of 53.63 meters and contributing three points. In the pole vault, sophomore
Christoph Osselmann-Chai cleared 4.55 meters to finish seventh, adding 1.5 points to the team total. Junior
Alec Kuzyk also competed in the event, matching the same height of 4.55 meters and
placing 10th.
Across events, Amherst's men showed both high-level scoring ability and depth, particularly in the throws and vault. With contributions from veterans and underclassmen alike, the Mammoths
are well-positioned to continue adding to their total tomorrow at Springfield College as the championships progress.
