CLINTON, N.Y. – The Mammoths captured NESCAC titles in three events and claimed All-NESCAC honors in six events as the Amherst College men's track and field team earned a fourth-place finish on Saturday at the NESCAC Track & Field Championships on Pritchard Track at Hamilton College.
Senior
Henry Buren won the 100m dash, junior
Ellis Phillips-Gallucci won the 400m hurdles and the Mammoths won the 4x800m relay.
Buren also earned All-NESCAC honors with a second-place finish in the 200m as did senior
Troy Colleran in the javelin and junior
Kelechi Eziri in the triple jump. All-NESCAC honors are awarded to the top three finishers in each event.
The Mammoths scored 82 points in the first NESCAC Championship meet since 2019. Tufts finished on top with 177.5 points to claim its first championship since 2015 while Williams was second with 164 points.
The Mammoths are back in action next weekend, competing for more titles at the New England Division III Championships at Williams College. The decathlon begins at 1 p.m. on Thursday (May 5) and events continue on Friday and Saturday.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* Buren sprinted to a school record in the 100m, besting his own mark by one-hundredth of a second with a time of 10.79 to win his first NESCAC title. He went on to finish second in the 200m with a season-best time of 21.85.
* Phillips-Gallucci came from behind to win the 400m hurdles in his NESCAC Championship debut, clocking a personal-best time of 54.42 to qualify for the NEICAAA Championship.
* The 4x800m relay squad featured sophomores
Kolya Markov-Riss and
Braedon Fiume and first-years
Nick Edwards-Levin and
Jack O'Hara. The Mammoths claimed the NESCAC title in 7:47.89, the third consecutive championship in which Amherst won the event.
* Colleran unleashed a javelin throw of 47.75m to claim his second career All-NESCAC honor with a second-place finish.
* Eziri finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 14.28m to earn All-NESCAC honors in his NESCAC Championship debut.
* Junior
Chris Gong finished fourth and Eziri was eighth in the long jump. Gong posted a mark of 6.88m to qualify for the NEICAAA Championship while Eziri reached 6.73m.
* Sophomore
Benjamin Bell and junior
Matthew Gelin joined Buren and Gong to finish fourth in the 4x100m relay with a season-best time of 42.67.
* Sophomore
Camden Heafitz finished fifth and classmate Gabriel dos Santos was eighth in the high jump as each cleared 1.85m.
* Sophomore
Alton Machen and junior
Jack Trent finished seventh and eighth in the 110m hurdles. Machen crossed in 15.60 and Trent clocked a 15.75 in the finals. Machen ran a personal-best time of 15.25 in the prelims to qualify for the NEICAAA Championship.
* Sophomore
Wilson Spurrell finished seventh in the 800m with a personal-best time of 1:54.07.
* First-year
David Brown claimed fifth place in the discus with a mark of 38.75m and took seventh place in the shot put with a throw of 12.92m.
* The 4x400m relay team of Gelin, sophomores
Charlie Clary and
Ian Dopp and first-year Thomas Ye posted a time of 3:26.32 to finish eighth.
* Seniors
Ajay Sarathy and
Spencer Davis each qualified for the NEICAAA Championship with personal-best times in the 10,000m. Sarathy posted a time of 31:44.27 to finish 11th and Davis was 14th in 32:20.24.
