BERNARDSTON, Mass. – First-year
Jessica Huang posted a 2-over 74 in Sunday's second round to finish third individually and help the Amherst College women's golf team to a third-place team finish at the Jack Leaman Invitational, hosted by Amherst at the par-72 Crumpin-Fox Club.
Huang finished the tournament with a 149 (+5), two strokes behind the leaders, NYU first-year Nalinda Wanikpun and Williams junior Catalin Yturralde. Wanikpun won medalist honors on a scorecard playoff tiebreaker.
The Mammoths, ranked ninth in the nation in the latest WGCA Division III Poll, placed third in the 10-team field with a team score of 613 (+37). NYU won the tournament with a 603 (+27), four strokes ahead of second-place Williams.
Sophomore
Priya Bakshi shot a 3-over 75, highlighted by two birdies, to finish sixth overall with a 152 (+8). First-year
Gihoe Seo tied for 11th at 156 (+12) and junior
Janelle Jin was one stroke back at 157 (+13) to claim 15th place.
The event marked the final regular-season tournament for Amherst's two seniors,
India Gaume and
Mina Lee. Competing as individuals, Gaume tied for 19th at 159 (+15) and Lee was 25th with a 162 (+18).
The Mammoths return to action at home next weekend, hosting the NESCAC Championship at Amherst Golf Club with competition teeing off at 9 a.m. on Saturday (April 30) and Sunday (May 1).
