Sorensen qualifies for New Englands in pole vault as Mammoths compete at Collier Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – First-year Payton Sorensen qualified for the New England Division III Championship in the pole vault as the Amherst College women's track and field team competed at the Sean Collier Invitational, hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Saturday on the Morrison Track at Steinbrenner Stadium.

There was no team scoring in a meet that featured athletes from all three NCAA divisions.

The Mammoths now turn their attention to championship season, kicking off with the NESCAC Championships next Saturday (April 30) at Hamilton College.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

* Sorensen cleared 3.10m in the pole vault to match her personal best and qualify for New Englands with a fourth-place finish.

* First-year Lindsay Ward and sophomore Bridget Cassata each ran personal bests in the 100m hurdles. Ward finished third and was the top Division III finisher in 15.23 and Cassata was fifth in 16.15.

* Sophomore Trintje Nydam ran a personal-best 1:05.90 in the 400m hurdles to finish third.
