SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Amherst College women's track and field team kicked off competition with day 1 of the New England Division III Championships with a series of solid performances, highlighted by sprinting and throwing contributions that put the Mammoths on the board early.

Junior Héloïse Hughes led the way on the track, delivering an impressive showing in the 100-meter dash. Hughes clocked a time of 12.04 seconds in the prelims, finishing third and positioning herself as a strong contender heading into the finals. Her performance not only secured valuable team points but also reinforced her consistency as one of Amherst's top sprinters this season.
In the field events, sophomore Madison Vant represented Amherst in the javelin throw, placing eighth with a mark of 36.33 meters. Vant's effort added an important point to the team total and has been extremely consistent this year in the Mammoths' throwing squad.

Sophomore Lily Meadows competed in the hammer throw, finishing 15th with a distance of 44.52 meters. While just outside scoring position, Meadows contributed to Amherst's presence in a competitive field and gained valuable championship experience.
Through Day 1, the Amherst women have shown a balanced effort across disciplines, with opportunities to build momentum heading into the second day of competition. With Hughes advancing and others poised for improvement, the Mammoths remain in position to climb the standings continuing the competition tomorrow at Springfield College.
