4/10/2022 8:31:00 AM

LUDLOW, MASS – The Amherst College women's tennis team fought their all against the #8 Middlebury College Panthers on Saturday, but fell just short in a nail-bitingly-close encounter. Middlebury emerged as victors with a win of 5-4 in a match played at the Ludlow Tennis Club.

Amherst were off to a winning start, with a 2-1 lead after the three doubles matches were completed, with wins at the #1 and #2 spots. However, strong performances from the Panthers in the singles matches turned out to be the difference, with Middlebury winning 4 of the 6 singles matches to provide them with the 5 match wins they needed to win the overall dual match.

Up Next:
Amherst now hold a 5-5 record (3-2 in the NESCAC). This weekend is another NESCAC doubleheader for the Mammoths, with a dual match on both Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, Amherst will face rivals, the #17 Williams College Ephs, at the Hunt Tennis Courts in Williamstown, MA. The Mammoths thrashed the Ephs 8-1 when the two teams played their only dual matches of the fall against each other on October 16th.
