Maine swing concludes as #17 Amherst edges #21 Bates for 5-4 win

LEWISTON, Maine – The Amherst College men's squash team edged 21st-ranked Bates College, 5-4, on Thursday at the Bates Squash Center to complete a three-day swing through Maine.

None of the matches were won in straight sets by either side in a closely contested battle. Junior Adam Lichtmacher battled back from a two-set deficit to capture a five-set win at the No. 3 spot. Lichtmacher and sophomore Yeshwin Sankuratri won their matches in all three meets this week.

The Mammoths (4-3), ranked 17th in the nation in the latest CSA rankings, defeated Bates (2-8) for the first time since 2007. Amherst is back in action this weekend at the Pioneer Valley Invitational. Note that the schedule has changed for this weekend and the Mammoths will now face Hamilton on Saturday (Jan. 15) at 2 p.m.
